Sewing Serger Retreat

Essential Serger Techniques with Pamela Leggett from Pamela's Patterns

January 9 - 11, 2026 in Puerto Rico

You can do a lot more with a serger than just finishing raw edges.

Learn everything you need to know about using a serger during Day One and Two with the Serger WorkShop. You will practice and build confidence in various serger functions by creating a resource notebook of samples and techniques and see a variety of real-life applications used in garment construction. On Day Three, you will apply learned skills by creating two garments using Pamela’s Patterns Modern Peignoir Ensemble. The robe or topper will look as good with jeans and a T-shirt as it will for relaxing at bedtime, and the flowy no-side-seam pants/shorties work just as well for streetwear as they do for lounging.

Topics covered in this class include how to...

  • understand how a serger creates stitches, change threads and needles, evaluate and adjust tensions, troubleshoot when things go wrong, clean and maintain your serger.
  • secure thread tails, ease fabrics, seam straight edges, curves, inside corners, and outside corners.
  • use differential feed, install elastics and casings, hems, ribbing, rolled hems, flatlocked seams, heirloom finishes, and work with various types of fashion fabrics.

This class is perfect for students who've owned a serger for years, who've just purchased a serger, or who are thinking about adding a serger to their sewing studio.

Meet Pamela

Pamela has been teaching sewing since 1981. Specializing in pattern fitting, fine garment sewing skills, knits and serging she has developed a fun and informative teaching style that is available in her patterns, social media, and YouTube channel.

One of Pamela's passions is creating garments that flatter and fit the wearer. Her desire to teach others to achieve the perfect fit led her to the Palmer/Pletsch pattern fitting method, which she has used to help hundreds of women successfully achieve good fit and a renewed love of garment sewing. It is with this knowledge that she created Pamela's Patterns, which have many fitting solutions and adjustments built in the patterns.

Pamela is a contributing writer, book author and video personality for Threads Magazine, an instructor for Craftsy, director of the Palmer/Pletsch Philadelphia and Connecticut Sewing Workshops and a national sewing/serging educator.
